"Die Zauberflöte in der U-Bahn" "The Magic Flute in the Subway", Subwaystation "Bundestag" Berlin - April-June 2008

Mozart's most popular opera has been staged in a very unusual location, the brandnew and then still defunct subway station right under the "Bundestag", the House of Parliaments in Berlin. The modern adaptation of the play portraits Papageno as a punk that meets the traditional prince Tamino, who is lost in the modern cities underground maze. Every once in a while large scale video projections on all of the bare concrete walls, pillars and floors (made up of 5 video projections with live mixing) transform the modern functional scenery of the subway station into fantastic otherworlds, giving the central scenes of the play - the star-flaming queen of the night, the fire and water scenes, the attempt of revolt against sarastro in the end - a modern and sweeping visual backing.
