Organic Media Sculpture
product - object - organism
During the product design studies and work years I was trained in modelmaking- the building of precise appearance models of our design projects- be it furniture, monitors, phones etc.- using whatever materials are apropriate- metal, pu-foam, wood, resins and laquers. Translated into the fine arts activities of the following years, I create sculptures that bear ressemblance to products as well as animals, the have manmade- and natural characteristics that make them the threedimensional interpretations of my discourse in nature, art , technology and mythology. The somehow functional objects are the funky cousins of my former proper product design models- they move around selfsufficiently or they house video elements that occur like eyes that seem to give a glance of their inherent characters. The overall "anima"- characteristic of the object grows out of the specific visual structure of its"bio-skin" -shells, leaves, pinecones or any other natural objects that i find and gather - these multiple remains of formerly living beings are attached in mosaic, three- dimensional patterns around the body of the sculpture. New haptic textures arise, and they translate their organic presence into their context as artificial object.
